Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is also called "meridian tapping".
Originally this method was known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), and can be thought of as emotional acupressure. Now it is often referred to simply as tapping.
Meridians run throughout our bodies and are our body’s energy pathways. These pathways emit electromagnetic energy and light. Tapping clears energy disturbances within the meridians.
We have 14 energy pathways, known as energy meridians, within our bodies. All of our “negative” or uncomfortable emotions are caused by a disturbance in one or more of these meridians. Examples include anxiety, hurt, anger, shame, fear and the list goes on and on.
Tapping is not considered a “woo woo” technique. It is used by therapists, counselors, life coaches, educators and many others. Even well known scientists, such as Bruce Lipton, and international motivational speaker and author, Bob Proctor, promote its benefits. PTSD, chronic pain, anxiety, addictions and sleep disorders are but a few of the issues that can be helped by tapping.
I would like to share with you one of my favorite animal tapping stories. Quite a number of years ago I began feeding homeless cats that began showing up in my yard. One particular cat had one eye that was partially closed. A counselor and friend who taught me tapping mentioned that I could clear the problem using this technique. One way to clear for an animal is to set the intention that you are clearing for them. Then do surrogate tapping, which simply means that you are tapping on yourself for them.
I did not know the cat’s history or why the eye was partially closed. To me a partially closed eye metaphorically represents something that we do not want to see. I did one round of tapping, alternating with two phrases. The first phrase was simply “This right eye that is partially closed.” The second phrase was “Clearing whatever it is that I don’t want to see.” By the time I had completed one round of tapping, which took less than 5 minutes, the eye was completely opened an remained that way! It was an amazing experience.
